The Pensacola Bay Bridge is currently expected to open the week of May 31, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

When it reopens, about the first mile or so out of Pensacola will only be two lanes.

The bridge has been closed since it was struck and damaged by multiple Skanska barges.

Initially the state had targeted March 22 to reopen the bridge, but that date was pushed to May or the first week in June after initial damage was found to a trophy piece, one of the piers that supports the roadway spans.

Worked out there on that bridge before and after Sally Skanska is a horrible company to start with I was a third party so not hired by them .
It was no surprise to see them forget to move the barges they waited till less than 24 hours before the storm was to hit before deciding to move the barges all that damage so they could make a few extra hours of work out of their employees

Note: this is only half the bridge to open. It’s the “new” part, recently built by Skanska but terribly damaged by untethered barges from Skanska during Hurricane Sally. The other half, northbound side, was being built, and will complete soon after, hopefully, to open entire bridge. The damaged/potentially repaired southbound side will hold both southbound and northbound traffic, tightly packed, until completion of second side…

Worked out there. The fishing pier is pretty much destroyed. Lot of damage you can’t see until you go by it or under it in a boat. It most likely will be replaced.

So if the bridge is to last 99 years , they should start building the next one now so it will be done by then.

Saw that in some earlier pics after Sally. Heard that Skanska wanted to remove the fishing pier to make their access easier then rebuild it after they had finished the spans from Gulf Breeze to Pensacola. Haven’t seen or heard anything since then.
If removed and built back would be a good time to make it longer and wider.
Need to wet a line soon.

Until seeing these pictures I had no idea the fishing bridge was missing a section.

    Great gallery.
